Things to see and do in Blackpool

Catch a Show

Choose from the Grand, the Pleasure Beach Arena, North Pier Theatre or the iconic Winter Gardens, and you'll find shows and concerts galore! If you've never seen the Hot Ice Show, go and see it. It features beautiful costumes and brilliant choreography, as well as some great special effects. The show runs daily and is not to be missed.

Visit Blackpool Tower

Take the 380ft trip up into Blackpool Tower and experience the thrilling SkyWalk (a glass floor!), as well as fantastic views stretching out for many miles, and there's even a 4D cinema too, which brings the history of Blackpool to life like never before.

Watch a rock making demonstration

Ever wondered how this good old seaside staple is made? Visit a rock making demonstration and you'll see first hand how the sweet stuff is made, how it's flavoured, coloured and rolled by hand, and even how they manage to get the lettering inside! Plus there's usually a free taste to look forward to after the demonstration too. There are a few such demonstrations in various rock shops to choose from, including Rock City and Rock Candy Kingdom.

Blackpool illuminations

People visit Blackpool time and time again to see the spectacular illuminations that light up the sea front, between September and November. The switch on prompts a fun party atmosphere to descent on the town, and it's always a joy to see the lights spring to life.

The illuminations span an impressive length of 6 miles, running from Squires Gate to Red Bank Road, and are a joy to behold for adults and kids of all ages.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

For those that seek a bit more of a thrill, then the place to head to is the Pleasure Beach, an amusement park full of coasters and rides. The Pleasure Beach of course, is home to 'The Big One', the UK's tallest rollercoaster measuring in at a whopping 235ft tall, it features a stomach lurching drop only for the brave.

There's not just rides though, there are also numerous shows and attractions, ensuring there really is something for everyone.

See the Blackpool fireworks championship

This annual event takes place on selected dates throughout September and October. The event brings together the world’s firework elite and provides a truly magnificent spectacle that promises jaw dropping family entertainment.

Stroll down the South Pier

The emphasis is firmly on good old fashioned family fun when it comes to Blackpool's South Pier. Take a stroll down the pier, which was originally opened in 1893, and you'll find traditional stalls and attractions, as well as an arcade, rides and even a family bar, the ideal place for a drink and a quick bite to eat; if you haven't filled yourself up on rock and candyfloss that is!
